Re-Galvanized Hardware Cloth - Welded Wire Mesh
The title “Hardware Cloth” (HC) specifically refers to light mesh that is typically galvanized after welding or weaving. Re-galvanized hardware cloth welded wire mesh is a lightweight, flexible option using relatively thin gauge wire with a high percent open area. This material consists of steel being resistance welded (a process that uses heat generated from electricity to join wires) which is then hot dip galvanized in a zinc coating.

WeldmeshDue to the zinc coating on our welded wire mesh hardware cloth, this mesh specifically lends itself to many outdoor applications as it is able to withstand outdoor conditions and will not corrode or rust over time. Some more specific applications of this material include:
- Birdscreen
- Animal control applications
- Minnow mesh
- Anti-climb mesh
Our hardware cloth is available in a 3/4” x 3/4” pattern, 1/2” x 1/2” pattern, 8.3 mm x 8.3 mm pattern, and a 1/4” x 1/4” pattern. Please note these measurements are taken from center to center (spec sheets and CAD drawings are available above for more information). All of our hardware cloth material is galvanized after welding and will not rust at the weld points.
Our 8.3 mm x 8.3 mm x 0.8 mm anti-climb/minnow mesh is imported from Italy and is used in correctional facilities as anti-climb mesh or as material for minnow traps. In the 1980s, Ferrier Wire used to bring in a similar re-galvanized hardware cloth product being a 3 x 3 mesh x 21 gauge wire which came from overseas and was used for the same applications as the 8.3 mm material. However, due to quality issues we eventually stopped importing the product and did not keep any in stock. Over time, Ferrier Wire developed a relationship with a mill in Italy that supplied us with our GBW (Galvanized before welding) and GAW (Galvanized after welding) products. Through further communication with the Italian mill, it was revealed that they were able to supply a very similar spec to the old material from the 80’s. This material was the 8.3 mm x 8.3 mm x 0.8 mm material which originally came in rolls that were 1 m wide x 25 m long (39" x 82'). While customers were happy with the material, the odd roll size presented a challenge when working with some contractors. After some discussions with the mill, we were able to import a batch of 120 rolls that were 4’ x 75’ in the fall of 2022.
