What does juice and decorative expanded metal have in common? You can find both at the Greenhouse Juice Bar located at the Pusateri’s Eaton Centre location. Ferrier Design was approached by Kilogram Studio to create a mild steel (unfinished) expanded metal piece using the Ferdxm0050 pattern. The final product has 0.98" x 5.23" clear openings and weighs 1.55 lbs per square foot.
Kfir Gluzberg, designer and founder of Kilogram Studio, explains the reasons behind choosing a decorative expanded metal piece from Ferrier Design:
1. This is a grocery store setting where the lower part of the unit needed to be resilient - we gave it a brushed clear coat finish to minimize visible scratches and dents, which were inevitable.
2. The project was inspired by a terrarium, which are often angular glass cases. The geometry of the expanded mesh spoke to the angular geometry of a terrarium and of the company logo.
Kilogram Studio has designed nine Greenhouse Studio Juice Bar shops across Toronto, with more on the way. Each is designed differently – one location features neon signs of the company’s logo, while another is less than two metres wide. This particular location will be redesigned because it is moving to a different fridge in the same shop. Expect to see more Ferrier Design products on display!
Greenhouse Studio Juice Bar is a Canadian company that offers plant-based, cold-pressed juice free from preservatives, additives, pasteurization or high pressure processing. As a company that prioritizes sustainability, all juice is bottled in glass containers and brewed in small batches locally.
