We are excited to share that Ferrier Wire’s Mild Steel Ampliato 7509 Flat material has been used at the Smoke ‘N’ Barrel Kingston restaurant. Ferrier Wire expanded material has seen excessive use in the restaurant and hospitality sector – specifically for aesthetic purposes. The Smoke ‘N’ Barrel represents the perfect usage of expanded metal to accentuate the appearance of a restaurant or bar without breaking the bank.
Smoke ‘N’ Barrel Kingston opened in 2019 and has set out to bring authentic Southern barbecue to the heart of Kingston. Boasting Kingston’s largest selection of Whiskey and frequent live music acts, this restaurant/bar aims to give off a Southern aesthetic and vibe to its customers.
Ferrier Wires Mild Steel ¾” flat Ampliato metal was chosen as the most fitting pattern for the restaurant. The expanded panel can be seen at the back of some shelving behind the bar, creating an interesting visual effect when looking behind the counter. In addition to offering versatile patterns that can complement a variety of settings at a very affordable price, expanded metal also provides strength and rigidity to a project, making expanded material perfect for decorative infill panels such as the ones seen at Smoke ‘N’ Barrel Kingston. If you are interested in the specific Ampliato pattern used for this project, the spec sheet is available here. To see some of our other Ampliato patterns, please click here.
It is also important to note that for this specific project, mild steel (or plain steel) was used which contains large amounts of iron. Over time, the iron in the mild steel will react with oxygen forming rust on the surface of the material. Ferrier Wire also stocks expanded material in stainless steel and aluminum, both of which offer more corrosion resistance than plain steel. Another alternative to prevent rust is to finish the material. To learn more about some suitable finishing options for metal please visit our FAQ page.
