Metal Products Used as Decorative Facades

Wire mesh, perforated, and expanded (Ampliato) metal all lend themselves to many industrial and architectural uses – often blending practicality with aesthetics. One of the more common uses for these products is facades and privacy screens. Perforated Metal and Ampliato patterns specifically are often chosen for facades due to the unique patterns that are associated with both products. In addition to the aesthetic benefits of these metal facades, there are also certain structural advantages to choosing perforated/Ampliato metal for facades. Firstly, since these metal products are relatively light gauge (many Ferrier design perf specs range between 16 – 20 gauge), there can be substantial weight savings when compared to other materials such as glass which will lessen the stress on a project. Even though these panels are relatively light weight, they boast a high strength to weight ratio especially when working with stainless steel ensuring the structural integrity of your project is not compromised. 


The Polygon gallery

The exterior design of the Polygon Gallery in British Columbia is a perfect example of how metal products can be used as decorative facades. This particular example uses a unique expanded pattern adding texture and depth to the exterior of the building. It is also worth noting that this material is stainless steel which allows for greater structural integrity as well as greater corrosion resistance from the elements relative to other materials such as mild steel or aluminum.
