Project Spotlight: Luxurious Architectural Expanded Metal

In an upscale shoe boutique on Yonge and Eglinton, you will find two pieces of architectural expanded metal produced by Ferrier. Completed in 2015, the two pieces of weavemesh form a custom shoe rack and display for the boutique’s wide selection of stilettos and sandals. Designer Kelvin Kellman envisioned the final piece as a Grille Wall of mesh that sits in the middle of the shop and serves as the focal point of display for featured products.

The architectural expanded metal has been painted white to match the luxurious décor. It adds to the overall charming and laid-back atmosphere.

These products were woven in the same fashion as the mesh in our previous posts, with wire crimped by a crimping machine, fed into the loom and then woven. To read more about this process, click here. 

The boutique has received rave reviews from publications such as Toronto Life and the Toronto Star for its interior design. Designer Kelvin Kellman and his firm Kelvin Kellman Architecture is based out of Cobourg, Ontario. In addition to retail, the firm specializes in custom and/or multi-unit residential areas, the creation of eco-retreats, daycare centres, retail and hospitality.  

Ferrier Design has completed a wide variety of projects in the retail, commercial and hospitality sector. You can find our architectural expanded metal in places such as Greenhouse Juice Bar, the Air Canada Centre, and award-winning restaurants such as the Nightingale.  We collaborate with organizations and design firms across the GTA and all over Ontario to produce unconventional pieces.
